What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow embroidery procedure that lasts for 1 year, depending on the clients skin type and skincare routine. A hand tool is used to etch hair-like strokes on the eyebrow to imitate the client’s natural brow hair.  Unlike a tattoo, microblading is a less invasive technique where pigment color is embedded under the skin. There are several pigments colors available for the technician to sample on the client for the most natural look where skin tone is also taken into consideration. Microblading is the perfect option for someone who has a full brow with sparse hairs and looking to enhance his or her brow.

What is Microshading?

Microshading, also called “powder brows” or “ombre brows”, creates a shadow or gradient appearance that looks like you used a brow powder. The color fades during the healing process and still gives a natural look. Unlike microblading, shading uses a tattoo-like machine that results in a powder-brow look, instead of hair-like strokes. Microshading provides a better look to those who have little to no eyebrows and can last longer than microblading.

How long does it take?

Microblading and Microshading is done in two sessions:

Session One: The entire procedure takes between 2-3 hours. First, I will go over the pre-procedure instructions and the aftercare instructions. Second, I will shape and style the brows, then test pigment colors on the client’s skin for his or her approval. Then, the procedure begins.

Session Two: This takes place 4-6 weeks after the first session and lasts 1-2 hours. All follow-up visits are necessary for touch-ups and to secure the lasting pigment color. Everyone heals differently and the outcome will vary. Some areas may need to be filled in more because it may not have picked up during first session, brow thickness and more strokes can be added, and/or pigment color may need to be adjusted. Also, oily skin tends to lighten the pigment so a deeper shade maybe helpful during the 2nd session. This session ensures the perfect look and retains the color for the whole year.

**Touch up sessions should not be done earlier than 4 weeks after the 1st microblading session. The Pigment color has not fully settled into the skin, and most importantly, this is to prevent scar damage - the tissue requires time to completely heal.

Is it painful?

The pain level for the procedure varies from person to person. Prior to the procedure I will apply a topical anesthetic to numb the area, and reapply during the procedure. Depending on the client, the feeling of the procedure has been described from light pinches to not feeling anything. Topical anesthetics used may contain lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine and epinephrine.

After the procedure, redness and slight swelling in the area is normal.  Clients describe the area feeling similar to light sunburn.  Clients can take Tylenol but not aspirin or ibuprofen.

How long does it take to heal?

Microblading takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal, and about 1 month for the color to fully set in.

After the procedure, the eyebrow area will be slightly red and the color will appear dark. Do not worry, this is the normal healing process and the redness should be gone in a few hours. Days following the procedure, the eyebrows will get slightly darker, but lighten back up about 30-50% as it heals. You will also notice slight scabbing, DO NOT pick at the scabs because you can damage the skin and the results of your eyebrows. Some clients notice his or her skin has an opaque milky looking quality to it a couple of weeks after; this is called “milk skin”. This is common in tattoos and the tissue is still healing from the inside out even though the surface of the skin is healed, but the true color will reveal itself once healed.
